how to do life and do organic. at the same time.

i used to hear of people eating organic and think to myself: must be nice to be rich and have time to do that. i thought it meant more time & more money than us asparagus-steaming poor folk who only have 20 minutes to make meals because work/childcare/social life/life in general are waiting.

well gone are those days. when i was on mat leave, marcus rarely if ever ate food out of a jar. i made it all, with few [organic] exceptions. i loved it. i loved knowing exactly what was going into that tiny precious bod. but when i had to go back to work, i worried that it would mean we'd be dining on skillet sensations [no preservatives? sure. because there's so much sodium there isn't even room for them.] because of our busy life. and i've gone to good lengths to find a whole lotta ways to keep our bods on great, healthy, and lotso organic diets.... to start with, most of our day to day foods are a la pc organic: it's not expensive, and it's awesome. breakfast looks like this combo:

are you thinking: uh, isn't that a jar of organic butternut squash? heck yes it is! sneak that goodness into the batter - you get a sweet, delicious addition to the already yummy pancakes. takes 10 minutes totes. i can handle that. even with life. plus it's a sweet victory to get your kid to eat a serving of vegetables before 8 am. throw a handful of blueberries in and you are talking one heck of a well balanced meal.

we also don't have a cookie jar. instead marcus has his own snack jar - loaded with a wicked variety of organic cereal bars, granola bars, raisins, cocoa rice bars, fruit twists... he loves it. we loves it:
and we throw a twist on classic faves:
looks like a grilled cheese right? mais non. that's a nutritious mountain of whole wheat DHA omega bread, organic cheese, and natural selections turkey. good times i tell you. good times.

now we aren't all organic and dha over here. we take the kid out for fro yo weekly and i'd be lying if i said he has never said to me "i want some chippies!". we're human. but we're healthy. and we still have time for this much fun:
