the mega don.
if you've been following this blog. or if you know me at all. you know how close i am with my dad aka the mega don aka the bmoc. he is a smart + hard working man filled with common sense + the warmest heart. what he lacks in his hairline he makes up for in his collection of jogging pants [the granny smith apple doesn't fall far from the tree]. he is equal parts awesome fascha + wicked rad grandpa. between rides in the biggest of trucks + trips to the bird feeder + john deere store in town, it's no wonder marcus adores his grandpa. but it's not all trucks and common sense - here are ten things i want to tell you about the best dad of all time:
1. he only carries marcus. doesn't let him walk. why? "i just want him to be his most rested". aka i die of the grandpa cute.
2. he prefers to 'where's waldo' instead of cliche family photos. which is why we have so few of them. typically it's a photo of laura and i that diana snaps, and if you look hard enough you can find his bald spot peeking out of the shadows, or out from behind a tree, or ... you get it. it's so funny. we laugh every.single.time. we do it.
3. he ate raisin bran every.single.day.of my life until he met diana and she went all organic on our pantry.
4. he worked as a bad-you-know-what Brinks security man in the back of the truck with a loaded handgun to put himself through uni and get his bach of commerce.
5. he loves when i come to visit because it means diana stocks the basement kitchen with chips and he sneaks little bowls of chips in the afternoon while marcus is napping and us ladies are busy upstairs. again. the apple + the tree? just saying.
6. my sister and i can come upstairs from the basement wearing anything from a new down-filled parka to jogging pants or church attire and our dad will gasp 'oh Laura/Karen. you. look. great.' Laura and I laugh about this often but it's so honest and authentic every time which is why we just love the man.
7. he gets mad on christmas morning when you give him gifts. as in. he won't open them until you physically put it in his hands. and then before he even opens it he lectures you "you girls shouldn't have done this." and then no matter what he opens, follows it up with "that's just too much. you didn't have to do that. oh thank you so much". it's half appreciation, half lecturing his family on christmas morning because he's just that much of a giver.
8. during my ten year stint of off-broadway gigs, he would drive me up to two hours each way to rehearsals for shows, and sit in the parking lot listening to sports radio or reading the paper for up to 9 hours at a time while i was on stage. he never missed a show. and i never missed a rehearsal. ultimate supportor. he and di drove 7 hours to see marcus' first show. the saga continues ;)
9. he has made so many amazing decisions in his and our lives alike. except for these haircuts:
10. he has the sweetest old man dance moves aka the tallman shuffle that we can't for him to unleash in a few weeks at a fam jam wedding reception.
we love + appreciate you so much dad.
happy father's day old man.
love peanut
+ marcus
