in google we trust.

how many times a DAY do you think a new mom hits up her google? when to start a bedtime routine? google it. how do you know the diff bw a hungry newb cry vs an i just did something epic in my swaddler cry? google it. i’m sure it’s just a touch of newb acne but what if it’s an allergy? google it. how to make homemade organic baby food? google it. i think we get it.
we are an entirely new generation of moms. even as a mom to a toddler, there are a handful of sites that i get a ton of parental value out of – I’m sure marcus would agree + james would roll his eyes bc he just received the third email today that reads ‘parenting article i think you might like’.

the googlesphere allows us moms to walk a fine line between growing and learning as a parent + obsessing over each low grade fever and overtired/behavioural Sunday afternoon. the resources to grow as a person + parent alike are so accessible. I subscribe to three different parenting email newsletters that track marcus’ age + progress. I have my hit list of sites for health concerns. organic baby food recipes. a handful of wicked rad resources i follow on twitter. a handful of mom blogs that twice a week i find equal parts peace of parental mind and inspiration in. there are sites where i can connect with local moms + find sweet toddler activities in our hood. even online forums for single moms to support each other, ask questions, and provide a digital shoulder to lean on during the tough single mom moments that it seems no one else can understand.
"hmmm. there must be an app for that"

as quick + easy + addictive as these blogs/forums/e-newsletters/tweets are? It’s important to keep your hawt mom head on straight and not obsess over the dirty deets of parenthood. over conflicting theories. over the granola mamas who think setting a routine early on will spoil your newb like a week old bag of organic homo milk. over the little red bumps that seriously.are.just. a touch baby acne and not an allergic reaction because you forgot to use the sensitive baby-safe laundry detergent after the 3AM feeding. keep your head on straight + instead of googling the IT out of your browser – find a handful of rock solid resources that reinforce the key morals of your parenting methods. aka the best one liner you can muster on the playground when your toddler dumps a Baltimore orioles fitted full back filled with sand on the cutest little [play]date in the park.

so here’s some of my faves: a handful of sites i find uber informative on the go – that you just might want to add to your daily-or-weekly web site rotation so long as it gets hit up AFTER this single mom’s blog ;)

www.babycenter.ca [wicked e-newsletter. subscribe the second you see those two little pink lines.]

www.thebump.com [ditto. this site will send you weekly updates comparing your child’s progress to various pieces of fruit. also a sick collection of live forums for super specific niche communities. including parents of disabled kids. single moms. local meet ups. the whole hawt mom nine.]

www.wholesomebabyfood.com [more than just kid-focused recipes. this site is best for true babies but i still refer to it for it’s top notch notes on particular nutritional needs for toddlers.]

www.impactparenting.com [follow this site on twitter. Each tweet is seemingly written perfectly in line with my own personal values as a parent. rock solid points of parental reflection and awesome tips on how to have the most positive impact on your child.]

www.kellehampton.com [kelle hampton was made blog-famous by her birth story. it will grab you by the heart strings with more oomph than your fave chick flick and inspire you to appreciate every.single.second. of the hand you were dealt. she’s also got mad photog skills.]

www.whowhatwear.com [i threw this is in the mix because i’m still a young 27 year old lady who loves to check out trends and deem them playground-appro or totally no.]

so google on mamas. browse your smartphone for a daily ‘impact parenting’ tweet that just might change the direction of your day. and your kid’s day. blog your post-bedtime evening away.

but before you hit your google max limit [yes. It could happen. maybe not in this technological lifetime but it’s more a metaphorical thing]: remember that as easily accessible as info is these days – it’s important to stay connected to resources that ADD VALUE to your own mama style + morals, and not the ones that make you wonder if you should have co-slept for the first three years just because someone on the forum didn’t like it when you typed the word’ babywise’ into the message box.

save as favourite? thought you’d never ask ;)
